If a tooth hurts today (cracked, throbbing, or something came off), call first. William L. Edwards Dentistry treats urgent dental problems during office hours in Rome.
Even if you are a new patient, we address the problem first, then schedule a standard new-patient exam.
Call (706) 235-8687 as soon as you can.
When to call a dentist, and when to go to the ER
Call our office for tooth pain, a broken or cracked tooth, a lost filling or crown, manageable swelling, or an injury that involves the teeth and gums.
Go to the emergency room first if you have trouble breathing or swallowing, serious facial trauma, or fast-spreading swelling with fever. Those situations need medical triage. A dentist can follow up once you are stable.
Call during office hours and we will get you on the schedule as soon as we can.
What to do while you wait
- Rinse gently with warm salt water if food is stuck.
- Use a cold pack on the cheek (wrapped, short intervals) for swelling.
- Avoid chewing on that side.
- Save any broken piece if you have it. Do not poke or dig at the spot.
- Use over-the-counter pain relief only as the label allows, and only if it is safe for you.
These steps are only for comfort until we can examine you.
What happens when you call
- Tell us what changed: pain, crack, swelling, something that fell out, or trauma to a tooth.
- Say whether you are already a patient or new to the office.
- Leave a number where we can reach you quickly.
The front desk will work to get you on the schedule during office hours. If you are new, we still prioritize the urgent issue. After that visit, we can complete a standard new-patient exam. More on getting started: New Patients.
Urgent care with the same team
Depending on what we find, urgent care here can include same-day crowns when that path fits, root canal treatment when the nerve is involved, extractions, and other general dentistry. See the range of care on our Treatment page.
If dental visits make you tense, we offer an oral sedation pill. A driver is required.
You will be cared for by Dr. Will Edwards and Dr. Lauren Lindsey, dentists serving Rome, Floyd County, Cedartown, and nearby Northwest Georgia. Dr. Edwards grew up in Rome. Dr. Lindsey grew up in Cedartown, has been part of this office since 2020 before dental school, and practices here after her May 2026 DMD.
